What is Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering in the Philippines?

Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) is the application of engineering science and designs to the processes and systems involved in the sustainable production, post production and processing of agricultural and biological materials and the efficient utilization, conservation and management of natural and renewable resources in order to enhance human health and the environment. A person who seeks to practice Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering shall be registered and duly licensed by the Board of ABE and the PRC. (Article 1, Section 4 of RA. 10915)

What is the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Licensure Exam?

All applicants for registration for the practice of agricultural and biosystems engineering shall be required to undergo and pass the appropriate licensure exam. It is usually conducted twice a year on the month of June and September. Every applicant for the examination shall have the following qualifications:

• A citizen of the Philippines or a foreign citizen whose country or State has a policy on reciprocity in the practice of the profession
• A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering or its equivalent, or Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering prior to or after ten (10) years after the approval of RA. 10915, in a school, institute, academy, college or university or an institution duly recognized as such by the CHED; and
• Of good moral character

What is the scope of the licensure exam?

The ABE Board Exam coverage shall be composed of the required competencies of the profession and include the following subjects:

Agricultural Mechanization, Power, Machinery and Equipment and allied subjects - 30%

1. Agricultural Power and Tractor Operation
2. Agricultural Machinery and Management, Extension and Marketing
3. Agricultural Machinery Design, Fabrication/Manufacturing and Testing
4. Agricultural Economics and Marketing
5. Agricultural Engineering Laws, Professional Ethics, Engineering Contracts, Specifications and Legal Documents

Soil and Water Resources Development and Conservation, Irrigation, Drainage and allied subjects - 33%

1. Hydrology
2. Irrigation and Drainage Engineering
3. Soil and Water Conservation Engineering
4. Mathematics, Agricultural Statistics and Operation Research
5. Agricultural and Fishery Sciences

Rural Electrification, Agricultural Processing, Agricultural Structures and allied subjects - 34%

1. Rural Electrification
2. Agricultural Processing
3. Agricultural Buildings and Structures
4. Waste Management
