What is Mechanical Engineering in the Philippines?

A person is deemed to be practicing or rendering service in Mechanical Engineering when he/she performs consultation, management, supervision, design, preparation of plans, specifications, manufacturing, sale, supply and distribution, implementation, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of any mechanical works, projects or plants. Also includes the teaching of mechanical engineering professional subjects in government recognized and accredited engineering schools; or employment in government as a professional mechanical engineer, registered mechanical engineer or certified plant mechanic if the nature and character of his/her work is in line with his profession requiring professional knowledge of the science of mechanical engineering (Article 1, Section 3 of RA. 8495)


What is the Mechanical Engineering Licensure Exam?

An applicant seeking to get registered as Mechanical Engineer shall pass a written technical examination for Mechanical Engineers on different subjects prescribed by the Board. It is usually conducted twice a year on the month of February and August. Applicants shall be examined by the discretion of the Board of Mechanical Engineers and must meet the minimum requirements:

  • A citizen of the Philippines
  • Must not have been convicted by a court of law of a crime involving moral turpitude; and
  • Holds a degree in Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from a school, institute, academy, college or university duly recognized as such by the Government

What is the scope of the licensure exam?

The ME Board Exam coverage is within the syllabi prepared by the Board of Mechanical Engineers and covers the topics on power plant and industrial plant engineering, mathematics, engineering economics, laws and ethics and machine design. To pass the examination, the applicant must obtain an average of 70% general average with no rating below 50% on any given individual subject.

    1. You need to get a general rating of 70% to pass. If you got 50% in all subjects, you will fail.
